Sturtevant was established in 1883 so we have over 134 years’ worth of Throwback Thursday material and are proud to share highlights from our long history. Today, we’re traveling back 101 years to 1916 and the second Exposition of Chemical Industries. The first Exposition of Chemical Industries was hosted in New York in 1915 and hosted 83 exhibitors but that number quickly grew for the next year’s event.
By the following year, the event had more than doubled in size, hosting 188 exhibitors, including Sturtevant—then known as Sturtevant Mill Co.
Sturtevant at the 1916 Exposition
A June 1920 issue of Science magazine (link: http://science.sciencemag.org/content/51/1330/628) highlights the significant growth of the Exposition, which attracted approximately 80,000 visitors in its second year. Sturtevant showcased several innovative products, including:
- A Ring Roll Mill
- A Vibrating Screen
- A Jaw Crusher
Many of the technologies we displayed at the Exposition have evolved and remain integral to our product line. For example, we still offer jaw crushers—now part of a suite of laboratory machines that includes advanced grinders and rotary crushers. Over the years, we’ve refined our designs to meet modern industry demands.
Showcasing Innovation: Then and Now
While the Exposition of Chemical Industries is no longer held, we still believe in showcasing our technology at a range of events including recently appearing at POWTECH 2017 in Nuremberg, Germany, where we presented our Micronizer® jet mills and FCM mills. Attendees experienced interactive demonstrations, including 360-degree views of our machines, providing an inside look at how they operate.
Our commitment to innovation and engagement continues today with shows in the United States and abroad. These events are opportunities to meet our experts, explore our technology, and learn more about our expansive history in particle reduction and air classification.
Dive Deeper into Our History
If history fascinates you, we invite you to explore the rich legacy of Sturtevant. From our founding to our milestones in industrial equipment design, our story is detailed on our history page.
Stay tuned for more updates and insights as we continue to share our expertise in particle size reduction and air classification on our blog.
